Platform Goals

Transition SGA into an Associated Student Government

Students need more control over their government. To make an Associated Student Government would be to help create an environment for the students by the students. To ensure all policy, regulation and life on campus is lead by students.

Fix orientation for International, Transfer and Returning Adult Students

The resources for orientations are limited for certain populations. Solutions include additional days for orientation, child care and further explanation of WSU's culture.

Create connections with outside entities such as SGA Alumni, Universities, local business, and city council

SGA needs to expand its connections to receive support from former SGA members and city and state partners. This will also expand SGA's opportunities and ability to make a change.

Comprehensive Fees

Information about Student Fees are not made as accessible as it should be. It is a students' right to know how much and what they are paying for through fees. A comprehensive overview of every fee would allow for students to know where their fees are going.

Student Rights

Students are not made aware of their rights. Many students face issues with professors and their cases are unheard, their parking citations are incorrect, and more. This makes the students feel exhausted because they feel they have no options. We hope to encourage students with the knowledge or their options.

Graduate Assistant Needs

Graduate assistants need a distinction in name between research assistants and teaching assistants. Additional hours, resources and benefits are also needed in order for our graduate assistants to feel valued and empowered on our campus.

Our Story

Rija and Kamilah have been friends since freshman year. They have taken a few classes together, which has allowed their friendship to grow while expanding their knowledge. The two are part of the Student Government and involved with other organizations, which leads to frequent collaboration between the two.

When Rija was looking for a Vice President running mate, she looked for qualities of trustworthiness, boldness, knowledge, humility, and willingness to grow. That search led her to Kamilah.

When Kamilah was asked to be Rija’s running mate, she was ecstatic to have an opportunity to serve the student body. Together Rija and Kamilah’s passion for student development and overall experience at Wichita State will continue to drive them as student leaders to make the university better for all students by continuing the work that is happening.
